No....that isn't some sort of S&M reference. :-)
I was at a networking luncheon on Thursday (anything that advertises as a "luncheon" v a "lunch" means you're forking out more $$ for it...). The gal sitting next to me -- who makes big 6 figures in salary and takes clients, etc. out internationally -- didn't know which plate was hers at the round table at which we were sitting.
I thought everyone knew the "B" and "D" thing -- which I shared with her. This apparently was also news to others of the 6-figure gals sitting at the table -- as 3 others said "Show me that again?? -- you don't want to know what this means in wrist contortion (laugh). So, I thought I should share it here. And I am sure I can find some place to tuck this into the book-that-is-to-be...
If you're sitting at your place at a table and are surrounded by bread, salad, water, etc., often it's hard to keep straight which bread plate/salad/wine/water is yours and which belongs to your neighbor. This is the easiest way that I know of -- taught to me at a very young age.
Turn your hands so that they are thumb up (wrists in towards one another). Now, touch the finger next to your thumb to the top of your thumb (so that you're basically making an "OK" sign). Keep all the rest of your fingers together.
If you look down, one of your hands (your left hand) looks like a small letter "b." And your other hand (your right hand) looks like a small letter "d." The "B" stands for "bread" (and any other food substance). So YOUR bread and salad are on your left. The "D" stands for "drink." So your water and wine are to your right.
And, if you turn your fingers upside down (clue: Turn your wrists TOWARDS you) and put your palms up to your eyes now, you will have the "Up in the Air, Junior Birdman" goggles position. Or, alternatively, you'll look like me, trying to show the "b" and "d" to someone across the table who seemed to be terminally perplexed by the whole thing at the luncheon and desperate to learn.

O.K. Ms. Solitaire!! I'm working on getting a life (blog)of my own I just have one more question.
First, thank you for the blog title idea! It was great but I want my blog to be more than about me seeking my "James". I do like the term "Quest" so I was hoping that I can use that idea and one of your other's. I thought about "A Quest to Be the Best Bond Grrl I Can Be" or something like that. So can I use Bond Grrl too? Cause I really wanna be one:)!
I luv'd the B & D tip. You should've seen me working it out at my desk. I can't wait to my next dinner party!!
By the way the way I came apon your blog: You know at the top right corner there's an option that says next blog I was just clicking it and I lucked up to yours. I did go to your Web Site fempoerment and I luvvv it! I wish I was in Cali to take the courses. I sure do need them. If you all become national come to Chicago I'm just 20 minutes outside of there.
Anyway, Can I use it?

O.K. Ms. Solitaire I going to get a life(blog) of my own and stop bugin' u. I'm tring to come up with the title of my blog and I have a request.
First of all, I luv the B&D tip. You should have seen me at my desk working it out. Too funny. (I hope you feel better soon!) I can't wait till my next dinner party.
Thanks for the idea for the title of my blog. I like the concept of a daily quest but, I don't want it to be mainly about finding a "James". He's really just a small fish to fry, I have so many bigger ones. So I was thinking about using some of your other ideas. I was hoping that I can use "bond grrl" in my title something like " A Daily Quest: Being the Best Bond Grrl I Can Be" or something like that. What do you think? I also went on the fempowerment web site and I luvv it! It's just what I need. Too bad I'm not in the Cali area so that I can take the courses. If you all decide to go national come to the Chicago area. I'm about 20 minutes outside of there. I'll be the first to sign up....
The way I found your blog: You know at the top right coroner of blogs there's a option to go to the next blog and while I was clicking I lucked up on yours.
I'm glad you like people!!Take care.
merrid
Sorry!! I didn't mean to send so many of the same comments. My computer went on the fritz and I thought I lost them. You understand :0?
Ms. Merrid!
So you are a "close-to" Chicago grrl! I am jealous -- that means you actually COULD go to see Oprah! :-)
I totally agree with you re your blog to be more than about you seeking your "James" -- because if you really want to be a Bond grrl, that's the least of your worries (HE comes to YOU). I love the idea of you doing a blog of "A Quest To Be The Best Bond Grrl You Can Be." You can give me the link, and I can even comment on it.
What might be a fun thing is to start the blog with a description about how we "met" here. Then, you would start back reading the postings when I started (in August). And there are some exercises there -- some discussions about what a Bond grrl is, etc. Then you can talk about how you're getting on, and you can reference back to the date of the posting on this site that you're working on (so that if someone were to want to do it too, they could do the same by following your example).
I'm thinking about doing a book, because reaching people like you is too hard with the seminars. So this would be a great 'test.' Then maybe I can use your experiences to "tone" the book too -- and see what does and doesn't work. Watch out, we might BOTH get on Oprah, I can use you as my willing test subject from afar :-) I promise not to tell her or your mom you want her to adopt you (wink!!!)
I like the title of your blog -- it's great. The one thing would be that using the term 'fEmpowerment', I have a trademark on that term. So if you were to use it or discuss it, that would just be one thing, you'd just say at the beginning that you're discussing this idea, but then link it to my website or whatever (I don't want someone else thinking they can just use the term just casually -- since it's a term that I "own" now in the U.S. and to keep that ownership, when people hear the term they have to think of me.)
That is the business woman in me coming out :-)
So did you guess which of the OWBs on the website I am? Hint, I'm the "drive behind Double Oh! Productions" :-)))
I'm still laughing at you and doing the B&D tip at your desk :-))))
