That Magic Voice...

I'm actually doing some training with real estate agents this week. I just had a great experience, that I would like to share.

One of the gals who is bright, eager, and "rarin' to go" is 23 years old. She has a very girlie voice, and wants to come off competent on her outgoing message. So she had me listen to it.

She does indeed have a "girlie" voice -- and she definitely sounds 23 on her message. So we went through finding her "authentic voice."

I made her read some real estate listings, until her she could hold her hand on her chest, and feel her voice coming from "that part of her." She (like everyone!) laughed a lot doing it...but when she "found that voice" -- wow! She sounded 30. And that's the key for her -- she is just starting her career...she wants that outgoing message to sound competent and confident.

To find that authentic voice, just talk. But feel where your voice is "coming from -- it's probably coming from your nose/sinus area, or your throat. Not from your chest. So practice reading, and getting your voice down...down...down into your chest. You'll also find that as there is less air supporting your voice, that you have to talk slower, and you won't talk as loud. This is good.

Once you find it, listen to it. Don't she sound awesome? Finding your authentic voice, you're going to not only sound a little sensual (hey, that's not bad!), but competent, slow, relaxed, reliable.

Give it a try...see where your voice is coming from. And then use it. If you're in a crowded restaurant, don't "shout to be heard" -- heck, make them lean forward to hear what you say. It will make you choose more carefully. Stay in that voice -- and see how much closer just that alone moves you towards your Inner Bond Grrl.

I think I have my authentic voice down. Yesterday I had to make a long announcement at church, and although I was so nervous I spoke really well. This coming from the grrl who in Public Speaking Class during my college years got a "pitty grade" C just because I wrote my speeches good I just couldn't get up in front of 12 students to say them.
I've been practicing :-) For OPRAH!

That's because MICA didn't get a C in Public Speaking. She's a star (pronounced: "Stah") :-)))))
