Why "Grrl"?

I was asked the other day why I spell "girl" with two Rs. "Because I want to be sure that I'm unable to capitalize on any Google searches on 'Bond girl,' of course," I did NOT say.

In actuality, as you can probably imagine, I have read a LOT of books on James Bond, Bond-ology, and Bond "Girls." The problem is, every time I read that word, I think "Girl" as in "Girlie-Girl" -- which just does not fit what I'm trying to convey here at all.

Hence - Grrrrrrrrrl. A "girl" with "Grrrr" (a tiger in her tank, as the very old ad campaign goes). This treatment makes me feel happier with the term; for me, it eliminates the "Girlie-Girl" mental images that pop into my mind.

This is not to say that some of the Bond Grrls are not "girls." (A couple of them in the 70s were even "Eeek Girls'!) But I like to feel that in reading the word, you, dearest non-existent reader, will not gloss over that 'girl' word or get that girlie-girl feeling.

It's just an added bonus that I will remain Garbo-esque, hiding from Google spiders as I hold my head up high and say, "Traffic? Fame? Fortune? Speaking engagements? Bah."

Yah. Right.
